A quick, no-cook bento box featuring turkey and cream cheese roll-ups, fresh fruits, veggies, and pretzels. Perfect for kindergarten lunches, this kid-approved meal comes together in under 10 minutes and returns an empty box every time.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 45 slices deli turkey (oven-roasted preferred)
  • 3 tablespoons cream cheese, softened
  • 1 large flour tortilla (8-inch) or flatbread wrap
  • 1 mozzarella or cheddar cheese stick, cut into thin strips
  • 1/4 cup cucumber, cut into matchsticks or small rounds
  • 45 cherry tomatoes, halved or quartered
  • 1/2 cup red or green grapes, halved lengthwise
  • 1/4 cup baby carrots (about 56 mini carrots)
  • 1012 pretzel sticks
  • 2 tablespoons hummus or ranch dip (optional)

Instructions

  1. Soften the cream cheese: Take cream cheese out of the fridge 10 minutes before starting, or microwave for 10-15 seconds until spreadable but not hot.
  2. Prepare the tortilla: Lay tortilla flat on a cutting board. If stiff, microwave for 5-8 seconds to make pliable.
  3. Spread cream cheese: Using a butter knife or offset spatula, spread softened cream cheese evenly over the entire tortilla, leaving a half-inch border around the edges.
  4. Layer turkey: Place turkey slices flat over the cream cheese, overlapping slightly to cover the whole tortilla.
  5. Add cheese strips: Lay cheese stick strips in a line along one edge of the tortilla (the edge you’ll start rolling from).
  6. Roll it up: Starting from the edge with the cheese strips, roll the tortilla tightly but gently. Press down firmly to seal the edge.
  7. Chill (optional): Wrap the roll in plastic wrap or parchment paper and refrigerate for 5-10 minutes for cleaner slicing.
  8. Slice into pinwheels: Using a sharp knife, slice the roll into 1-inch thick rounds (about 6-8 pinwheels). Trim ends if desired.
  9. Prep fruits and veggies: Wash and cut cucumber, halve cherry tomatoes, cut grapes lengthwise, and arrange baby carrots.
  10. Assemble bento box: Place turkey roll-up pinwheels in the largest compartment. Arrange cucumber, tomatoes, grapes, carrots, and pretzel sticks in other compartments. Add dip in a small silicone cup if using. Close lid.

Notes

For best results, use room temperature cream cheese to avoid soggy tortillas. Make roll-ups fresh; do not prepare the night before as cream cheese makes tortilla soggy. Pat turkey slices and cucumber dry to prevent sogginess. Roll-ups taste better after 1 hour in the fridge but should not be stored longer than 4-5 hours. For dairy-free, substitute cream cheese with hummus or avocado mash. For gluten-free, use a large gluten-free tortilla or lettuce wrap.
