Ingredients

Scale
  • Red Layer: 1 package (3 oz / 85g) strawberry or cherry flavored Jell-O
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • ½ cup (120 ml) cold vodka or clear spirit of choice (e.g., gin, rum)
  • 1 tsp fresh lemon juice (optional)
  • White Layer: 1 package (3 oz / 85g) unflavored gelatin powder
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • ½ cup (120 ml) sweetened condensed milk
  • ½ cup (120 ml) vodka or clear spirit
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
  • Blue Layer: 1 package (3 oz / 85g) blue raspberry flavored Jell-O
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • ½ cup (120 ml) cold vodka or clear spirit
  • 1 tsp fresh lemon juice (optional)
  • Extras: Mini plastic or silicone shot cups (about 1.5 oz / 45 ml size)
  • Non-stick spray or oil (to grease the tray or cups for easy removal)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Red Layer: In a medium bowl, pour 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water over the strawberry or cherry Jell-O powder. Stir vigorously for about 2 minutes until completely dissolved. Add ½ cup (120 ml) cold vodka and 1 tsp lemon juice, stirring gently to combine. Pour the mixture evenly into your mini shot cups, filling each about one-third full. Place the tray in the refrigerator for 30-40 minutes or until firm but not rock solid.
  2. Make the White Layer: While the red layer chills, dissolve 1 package (3 oz / 85g) unflavored gelatin powder in 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water, whisking well for 2 minutes. Let it cool slightly (about 5 minutes), then stir in ½ cup (120 ml) sweetened condensed milk, ½ cup (120 ml) vodka, and 1 tsp vanilla extract. Once the red layer is set, pour the white mixture over it, filling the cups to about two-thirds full. Return to the fridge and chill for another 30-40 minutes until set.
  3. Create the Blue Layer: Repeat the process for the blue raspberry Jell-O: dissolve in 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water, stir in ½ cup (120 ml) cold vodka and 1 tsp lemon juice. Let the mixture cool slightly before pouring gently over the white layer to avoid mixing colors. Fill the cups to the top and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight for best firmness.
  4. Serve and Enjoy: Once all layers are set and firm, your Perfect Red White And Blue Jello Shots are ready. Pop them out if using silicone molds or serve right in the mini cups. Keep refrigerated until serving for the best texture.

Notes

Pour each layer slowly over the back of a spoon to avoid breaking through the previous layer. Chill each layer for 30-40 minutes until firm before adding the next to prevent colors from blending. Let gelatin mixtures cool before adding alcohol to ensure proper setting. Grease molds or cups lightly with non-stick spray for easy removal. For non-alcoholic versions, substitute vodka with cold fruit juice or soda.
