A creamy, savory Halloween dip with a fun spider web design made from sour cream and topped with olive spiders. Ready in under 20 minutes, this crowd-pleasing appetizer is perfect for parties and movie nights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 16 oz cream cheese, softened (two blocks)
  • 1 cup sour cream, divided
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 packet (about 1 oz) ranch seasoning mix
  • 1/2 cup salsa, drained
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives
  • Tortilla chips for serving

Instructions

  1. Soften the cream cheese: Remove from fridge at least 30 minutes before starting. If forgotten, cut into small cubes and let sit for 15 minutes until soft.
  2. Mix the base: In a large mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, 3/4 cup sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, and ranch seasoning packet. Beat with a hand mixer on medium speed until smooth and fully combined, about 2-3 minutes. Scrape down sides of bowl at least once.
  3. Fold in the salsa: Add 1/2 cup drained salsa to the bowl. Gently fold with a spatula until evenly distributed, leaving small pockets of salsa.
  4. Spread into dish: Transfer mixture to a serving dish or 9-inch pie plate. Spread into an even layer and smooth the top.
  5. Create the spider web: Spoon remaining 1/4 cup sour cream into a ziplock bag. Snip a tiny corner off the bag. Pipe a small circle of sour cream in the center, then pipe larger concentric circles around it (about 4-5 circles total).
  6. Drag the web lines: Using a toothpick or skewer, start at the center and gently drag outward through all sour cream circles toward the edge. Repeat every inch around the dip to create web-like lines. Wipe toothpick clean between each drag.
  7. Add the spiders: Arrange sliced black olives on top to look like spiders (4-5 slices per spider, with small pieces for legs). Place 3-4 spiders across the web.
  8. Chill before serving: Refrigerate for at least 15-20 minutes before serving to allow flavors to meld.

Notes

Make the dip base up to 24 hours ahead, but add the sour cream web and olive spiders just before serving to keep the design clean. For best results, use full-fat cream cheese and sour cream. If cream cheese is cold, cut into cubes and microwave for 10-15 seconds. The dip can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
