PB&J Uncrustables recipe - featured image

A quick and easy homemade version of classic peanut butter and jelly Uncrustables made without special tools, perfect for snacks and lunchboxes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 slices white sandwich bread (soft and fresh)
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter (creamy or chunky)
  • 1/2 cup grape jelly or your favorite jelly or jam
  • Butter or margarine (optional, for sealing edges)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your work surface and ingredients. Lay out 8 slices of white sandwich bread on a clean cutting board. Have your peanut butter and jelly ready with spreading knives.
  2. Flatten the bread slices slightly using a rolling pin or bottle to make them easier to seal. Press gently to keep bread soft but pliable.
  3. Spread about 1 tablespoon of peanut butter evenly on half the slices, leaving a small border around the edges.
  4. Spread about 1 tablespoon of jelly over the peanut butter, again keeping a border to prevent oozing.
  5. Place the remaining bread slices on top of the jelly-covered slices, aligning edges carefully.
  6. Seal the edges by pressing firmly all around the sandwich with your fingers or a fork. Optionally, brush edges with melted butter before pressing for a tighter seal.
  7. Trim off the crusts carefully using a sharp knife to create neat, crust-free sandwiches.
  8. Wrap each sandwich in plastic wrap or place in an airtight container. Store refrigerated or freeze for longer storage.

Notes

Do not overfill sandwiches to prevent mess. Flatten bread gently to avoid gummy texture. Seal edges firmly with a fork to prevent jelly leakage. Wrap sandwiches individually to keep fresh. For nut allergies, substitute peanut butter with sunflower seed butter. Gluten-free bread can be used as a substitute for regular bread.
