easy simple grilled brats recipe - featured image

A quick and fuss-free grilled bratwurst recipe using just bratwurst and beer, perfect for summer BBQs and casual gatherings. Juicy, flavorful, and easy to prepare in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 to 8 links of quality bratwurst, fresh or thawed if frozen
  • 1 12-ounce (355 ml) bottle or can of beer (lager or pilsner recommended)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your grill to medium heat, around 350°F (175°C).
  2. Pour the beer into a large skillet or shallow pan, add the bratwurst, and simmer on medium heat for about 10-12 minutes.
  3. Carefully remove the brats from the beer with tongs, letting excess liquid drip off.
  4. Place the brats on the preheated grill and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side, turning frequently until golden-brown with grill marks.
  5. Check for doneness using a meat thermometer to ensure an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C), or cut into a brat to check that juices run clear.
  6. Let the brats rest for 3-4 minutes before serving to allow juices to redistribute.

Notes

Simmering the brats in beer before grilling keeps them juicy and infuses subtle flavor. Use medium heat to avoid bursting casings. Turn often for even cooking and rest brats before serving. You can prep ahead by simmering early and finishing on the grill later.
