A beginner-friendly recipe for festive red, white, and blue jello shots that are quick to make, visually striking, and perfect for patriotic occasions or any fun gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Red Layer: 1 package (3 oz / 85 g) strawberry or cherry-flavored gelatin
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) vodka
  • White Layer: 1 package (3 oz / 85 g) unflavored gelatin powder
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1 cup (240 ml) cold sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) vodka
  • Blue Layer: 1 package (3 oz / 85 g) blue raspberry-flavored gelatin
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) vodka

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Red Layer: Boil 1 cup (240 ml) water. Pour over the strawberry or cherry gelatin powder and whisk until completely dissolved (about 2 minutes).
  2. Add 1/2 cup (120 ml) vodka and stir gently to combine.
  3. Pour the red mixture evenly into your shot glasses, filling about one-third of each.
  4. Place the tray in the fridge and chill for at least 45 minutes, or until firm to the touch.
  5. Prepare the White Layer: Sprinkle the unflavored gelatin over 1/2 cup (120 ml) cold water, let it bloom for 5 minutes.
  6. Heat 1/2 cup (120 ml) boiling water and pour it over the bloomed gelatin, stirring until dissolved.
  7. In a separate bowl, combine the condensed milk and 1/4 cup (60 ml) vodka.
  8. Slowly add the gelatin mixture to the condensed milk mixture, stirring gently to blend.
  9. Carefully spoon the white layer over the chilled red layer to avoid mixing (pour over the back of a spoon).
  10. Return to the fridge and chill for another 45 minutes until firm.
  11. Prepare the Blue Layer: Boil 1 cup (240 ml) water, pour over the blue raspberry gelatin, and whisk until dissolved.
  12. Add 1/2 cup (120 ml) vodka and stir gently.
  13. Pour carefully over the chilled white layer, again using the back of a spoon for a soft pour.
  14. Chill for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight, until fully set.
  15. Serving: Once fully set, serve directly from the fridge. Run a warm damp cloth around the outside of plastic cups if you want to loosen them for easier removal.

Notes

For non-alcoholic versions, substitute vodka with cold water or lemon-lime soda. For dairy-free white layer, use coconut milk-based condensed milk or thick coconut cream. Bloom gelatin properly for best texture. Chill each layer fully before adding the next to prevent color bleeding. Use the back of a spoon to layer gently. Store in airtight container in fridge up to 4 days; best within 2 days.
