  • Goat cheese log (4 oz, 113g)
  • Prosciutto (4 oz, 113g)
  • Salami (4 oz, 113g)
  • Pepperoni (3 oz, 85g)
  • Candy corn (1 cup, about 200g)
  • Pumpkin-shaped marshmallows (1 cup, about 100g)
  • Chocolate-covered pretzels (1 cup, about 150g)
  • Orange and black jelly beans (½ cup, about 100g)
  • Water crackers (about 20 pieces)
  • Baguette slices (about 15 slices)
  • Pretzel sticks (about 20 pieces)
  • Green grapes (1 cup, about 150g)
  • Dried apricots (½ cup, about 80g)
  • Fresh figs (4-5, halved)
  • Pickled cornichons (½ cup, about 60g)
  • Fresh rosemary sprigs (3-4 sprigs)
  • Edible glitter or gold dust (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prep Your Ingredients (5 minutes): Get everything out of the fridge and onto your counter. Cheese needs to come to room temperature for the best flavor and texture—about 20-30 minutes before serving. While it’s warming up, slice your aged cheddar into thin triangles or small cubes. Cut the brie into wedges, leaving the rind on. Slice the smoked gouda into thin strips or small triangles. For the goat cheese, leave it whole or slice it into rounds if you prefer smaller pieces. For the cured meats,…
  2. Arrange the Bowls (2 minutes): Place your small bowls or ramekins on the board first. These will hold the candy corn, jelly beans, and any other loose items you don’t want scattered everywhere. I like to put the candy corn in a small bowl in the center of the board because it’s the visual anchor. Put the jelly beans in another bowl off to one side. If you’re using a dip like honey or mustard, put that in a third bowl.
  3. Place the Cheeses (3 minutes): Now arrange your cheeses around the bowls. Spread them out so they’re evenly distributed across the board—you don’t want all the cheese on one side. Place the brie wedge near the edge of the board, the cheddar cubes in a small cluster, the gouda slices in another spot, and the goat cheese log somewhere in between. Leave a little space between each cheese so people can cut and serve without knocking things over.
  4. Add the Cured Meats (2 minutes): Fold or drape the prosciutto slices in loose ribbons and place them near one of the cheeses—cheddar works well because the sharpness cuts through the saltiness. Arrange the salami rounds in a small overlapping pile, like a fan of cards. Place the pepperoni slices in another small pile nearby. The meats should look casual and inviting, not perfectly arranged.
  5. Fill in with Crackers and Bread (2 minutes): Now fill the empty spaces with crackers, baguette slices, and pretzel sticks. Don’t stack them too neatly—scatter them in small clusters around the board. I like to put the water crackers near the brie and the baguette slices near the cheddar. The pretzel sticks can go anywhere; they’re more of a filler and a snack option.
  6. Add the Fruits and Vegetables (2 minutes): Tuck the green grapes into small gaps between the cheese and meat. Place the dried apricots in a small cluster near the aged cheddar—they’re a classic pairing. If you’re using fresh figs, place them cut-side up near the goat cheese. Scatter the pickled cornichons around the board, especially near the salami and prosciutto, because their acidity balances the richness.
  7. Finish with Sweets and Garnish (2 minutes): Finally, add the Halloween sweets. Scatter the pumpkin marshmallows around the board—don’t put them all in one spot. Place the chocolate-covered pretzels in small piles near the edges. If you’re using edible glitter, lightly dust it over the candy corn bowl and the marshmallows for a magical effect. Tuck fresh rosemary sprigs in between the cheese and crackers for a pop of green that looks like little Halloween trees.
  8. Serve and Enjoy (0 minutes): Your board is ready! Serve it at room temperature for the best flavor. Provide small plates, napkins, and plenty of toothpicks or small forks so guests can help themselves. Watch as people immediately gravitate toward the candy corn and cheese combination—I promise, they’ll be talking about it all night.

Notes

If making ahead, leave crackers and bread off until just before serving to prevent sogginess. Board can be assembled up to 4 hours in advance, covered loosely with plastic wrap, and refrigerated. Let sit at room temperature for 20 minutes before serving. Keep candy corn in a bowl or tight cluster to avoid it mixing with savory items. For best flavor, serve cheeses at room temperature.
