A warm, creamy, and protein-packed oatmeal that tastes like a peanut butter banana smoothie in bowl form. Ready in under 10 minutes with simple ingredients, this naturally sweetened breakfast keeps you full for hours.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (45g) rolled oats
  • 1 cup (240ml) milk (whole, almond, or oat)
  • 1 medium ripe banana, mashed
  • 2 tablespoons (32g) creamy peanut butter
  • 1 scoop (about 30g) vanilla protein powder (whey or plant-based)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional toppings: sliced banana, extra peanut butter drizzle, cinnamon, dark chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Mash the banana in a small bowl with a fork until mostly smooth with a few small lumps.
  2. In a small saucepan, combine rolled oats, milk, and mashed banana. Stir until banana is mostly incorporated.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until it reaches a gentle simmer (about 3-4 minutes).
  4. Reduce heat to low and stir frequently (every 30 seconds) for another 3-4 minutes, until oats are tender and mixture is thick and creamy.
  5. Remove from heat. Stir in peanut butter until fully melted and incorporated.
  6. Let oatmeal cool for about 30 seconds. Sprinkle protein powder evenly over the top and stir vigorously (or whisk) until completely smooth. Add a splash of milk if too thick.
  7. Taste and adjust sweetness or salt as needed.
  8. Serve immediately in a bowl with desired toppings.

Notes

Do not add protein powder while oatmeal is still on the heat; let it cool off the heat for 30 seconds first to prevent clumping. For meal prep, make the base (oats, milk, banana, peanut butter) and store in fridge up to 3 days; reheat with splash of milk, then stir in protein powder off heat. Use a whisk for smoother protein powder incorporation.
