Cozy Spiked Apple Cider Halloween Punch

spiked apple cider Halloween punch - featured image

A warm, comforting, and slightly boozy apple cider punch that comes together in just 5 minutes. Perfect for Halloween parties, bonfire nights, or a cozy night in, this simple recipe lets the apple cider shine with cinnamon, cloves, and a hint of bourbon.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 64 oz (1.9 L) apple cider
  • 1 cup (240 ml) bourbon or whiskey
  • 3–4 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves
  • 2–3 star anise pods (optional)
  • 1 large orange, sliced into thin rounds
  • 1 cup (120 g) frozen cranberries
  • 2 tablespoons (25 g) brown sugar (optional)
  • Apple slices for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine the Base (2 minutes): Pour the entire 64 oz (1.9 L) of apple cider into a large pot. Add the cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and star anise. Drop in the orange slices and frozen cranberries. If using brown sugar, add it now.
  2. Heat Gently (3-4 minutes): Place the pot over medium heat. Warm the cider slowly without letting it boil. Heat until steaming and small bubbles form around the edges, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add the Spirit (30 seconds): Remove the pot from heat. Stir in the bourbon (or your spirit of choice).
  4. Taste and Adjust (30 seconds): Ladle a small amount into a mug and taste. Adjust sweetness, spice, or alcohol level as desired.
  5. Serve Immediately: Ladle the punch into mugs, ensuring each serving gets a few cranberries and an orange slice. Garnish with a fresh apple slice if desired. Serve warm.
  6. Keep Warm for Refills (optional): If serving over a longer period, keep the punch on the lowest heat setting on the stove or transfer to a slow cooker on the ‘Warm’ setting. The punch stays delicious for up to 2 hours on low heat.

Notes

Don’t boil the cider as it will ruin the fresh apple flavor. For a crowd, strain out whole spices and orange slices before serving. Make a double batch as it disappears fast. Serve warm, not hot—aim for coffee-drinking temperature. Prep ahead by combining cider, spices, and fruit in the pot a few hours before guests arrive, then heat and add bourbon right before serving.
