Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup sour cream (full-fat works best; Greek yogurt is a lighter option)
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise (Hellmann’s or Duke’s recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried dill, rehydrated in milk)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (kosher preferred)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground
  • 1 tablespoon buttermilk (or regular milk with a splash of lemon juice)
  • 1 large English cucumber, sliced into thin rounds
  • 1 bunch carrots, peeled and cut into sticks (about 4–5 medium carrots)
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced into thin strips
  • 1 yellow bell pepper, sliced into thin strips
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1 cup broccoli florets (bite-sized)
  • 1 cup cauliflower florets
  • 1/2 cup black olives, pitted (whole, for spiders)
  • 1/4 cup black olives, sliced (for spider legs)
  • 1/2 cup ranch dip (from recipe above)
  • 1 tablespoon sour cream (to thin the dip for drizzling)
  • A squeeze of lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Make the ranch dip: In a small mixing bowl, combine sour cream, mayonnaise, fresh dill, fresh parsley, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and buttermilk. Whisk until smooth. Taste and adjust seasoning. Cover and refrigerate while prepping veggies.
  2. Wash and prep all vegetables: Rinse vegetables under cold water. Pat cucumber dry. Slice cucumber into 1/4-inch rounds. Cut carrots into 3-inch sticks, 1/2-inch thick. Slice bell peppers into 1/4-inch strips. Halve cherry tomatoes. Break broccoli and cauliflower into small, uniform florets.
  3. Prepare the olive spiders: Set aside whole olives for bodies. For each spider, slice another olive into 8 thin rounds (legs). Store in a small bowl.
  4. Thin the dip for the web drizzle: Spoon 1/2 cup ranch dip into a small bowl. Add 1 tablespoon sour cream and a squeeze of lemon juice. Stir until smooth and thin enough to drizzle. Transfer to a squeeze bottle or zip-top bag.
  5. Assemble the spider web base: Place platter on a flat surface. Spoon remaining ranch dip into the center and spread into a 4-5 inch circle.
  6. Create the web pattern: Using squeeze bottle, draw 8 straight lines from center to edge like spokes. Then draw curved lines between spokes, starting from center and moving outward, to create a spiral web pattern.
  7. Arrange the vegetables: Place cucumber slices in a ring around the web edge, overlapping slightly. Add carrot sticks in a ring inside cucumbers. Follow with bell pepper strips, alternating colors. Fill remaining spaces with broccoli, cauliflower, and cherry tomatoes, creating concentric circles.
  8. Place the olive spiders: Arrange whole olives on the dip web (3-4 spiders). Gently press 4 sliced olive pieces on each side of each whole olive for legs.
  9. Final touches: Adjust any veggies. Optionally sprinkle fresh herb leaves around edges. Serve immediately or cover loosely and refrigerate for up to 2 hours.

Notes

Make the dip up to 3 days ahead for best flavor. Keep veggies cold and pat dry before arranging. For dairy-free, use vegan sour cream and mayonnaise. The web pattern doesn’t need to be perfect—imperfect lines add a rustic feel.
