Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin, even slices (about ¼-inch thick).
  3. In a medium bowl, toss apple slices with granulated sugar, ½ teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch until evenly coated.
  4. Transfer the apple mixture evenly into a small baking dish (about 6×6 inches).
  5. In another bowl, combine rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, ⅓ teaspoon cinnamon, and salt. Stir to mix well.
  6. Pour melted butter into the oat mixture and stir until it clumps together slightly.
  7. Sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the apples without pressing down.
  8. Bake on the center rack for 25-30 minutes until the topping is golden brown and apple juices are bubbling.
  9. If topping browns too quickly, tent loosely with foil for the last 5-10 minutes.
  10. Let the crisp rest for about 5 minutes before serving.
