Best Easy Mummy Pigs in a Blanket Recipe with Mustard Eyes

mummy pigs in a blanket - featured image

A fun and easy Halloween snack made from crescent dough wrapped around mini hot dogs to look like mummies, with mustard eyes. Perfect for parties, picky eaters, and last-minute kitchen victories.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (8 ounces) refrigerated crescent roll dough (sheet style)
  • 1 package (12-14 ounces) mini hot dogs or cocktail sausages
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • Yellow mustard (for the eyes)
  • Optional: Everything bagel seasoning or sesame seeds
  • Optional: Cooking spray or parchment paper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Unroll the crescent dough onto a clean cutting board. If using perforated triangle style, pinch all seams together to form a solid rectangle.
  3. Cut the dough lengthwise into thin strips about 1/2 inch wide using a pizza cutter or sharp knife. You should get about 12-14 strips.
  4. Wrap each mini hot dog with a strip of dough, starting at one end and working to the other. Leave a small gap between wraps (about the width of your pinky fingernail). Press the end of the dough gently to seal.
  5. Place the wrapped mummies on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 1 inch apart.
  6. Brush each mummy with the beaten egg using a pastry brush for a thin, even coat.
  7. Bake for 12-14 minutes until golden brown and puffy. Check at 10 minutes if your oven runs hot.
  8. Let them cool for 2-3 minutes before adding eyes.
  9. Dip a toothpick into yellow mustard and dab two small dots on each mummy near the top of the wrapped area.
  10. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

Cold dough is easier to cut and wrap. Don’t over-wrap the hot dogs—leave gaps for the mummy effect. Toothpicks work better than squeeze bottles for mustard eyes. Can be assembled up to 24 hours in advance and refrigerated. Add egg wash and mustard right before baking. Leftovers reheat best in an air fryer at 350°F for 3-4 minutes.
