Tender, juicy pulled pork slow-cooked to perfection and served on soft dinner rolls with a tangy homemade sauce, perfect for easy party snacks and casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 34 lbs pork shoulder (pork butt), with some marbling
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup chicken broth (240 ml)
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce (240 ml), use your favorite brand
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar (30 ml)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar (25 g)
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 12 soft dinner rolls (slider-sized)
  • Optional: coleslaw for topping

Instructions

  1. Trim excess fat from the pork shoulder if needed. Slice the onion thinly and mince the garlic (10 minutes).
  2. Spread the sliced onions evenly on the bottom of the slow cooker. Place the pork shoulder on top (5 minutes).
  3. In a bowl, whisk together chicken broth, BBQ sauce, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper (3 minutes).
  4. Pour the sauce over the pork, coating it well but not drowning it.
  5. Cover and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours or on high for 4 to 5 hours until pork is tender and shreds easily.
  6. Remove pork from slow cooker and shred with two forks or tongs (10 minutes).
  7. Return shredded pork to the slow cooker and stir into the cooking juices. Let sit on warm for 10 minutes to meld flavors.
  8. If desired, warm the soft dinner rolls in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5 minutes or toast lightly on a skillet.
  9. Assemble sliders by spooning pulled pork onto the bottom half of each roll. Top with coleslaw if desired, then cover with roll tops.
  10. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

For extra flavor, sear pork shoulder in a hot pan 3-4 minutes per side before slow cooking. Use gluten-free slider buns for a gluten-free version. Add a splash of cooking juices if pork seems dry before serving. Toast rolls lightly for extra texture. Adjust salt after tasting as BBQ sauce may add saltiness.
