A quick and easy recipe that transforms a standard box brownie mix into rich, fudgy brownies with a creamy peanut butter swirl and chocolate chips for extra gooeyness.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 standard 18.3 oz (520 g) box of fudgy brownie mix
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1/3 cup (80 ml) vegetable oil or canola oil
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) water
  • 1/2 cup (125 g) creamy peanut butter, room temperature
  • 1/4 cup (30 g) powdered sugar (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup (90 g) semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the box brownie mix, 2 large eggs, 1/3 cup vegetable oil, and 1/4 cup water. Mix until smooth, about 1-2 minutes, being careful not to overbeat.
  3. In a smaller bowl, stir together 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter, 1/4 cup powdered sugar, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until creamy and smooth. Microwave for 10 seconds if too stiff and stir again.
  4. Fold 1/2 cup chocolate chips gently into the brownie batter using a rubber spatula.
  5. Pour half the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  6. Dollop half of the peanut butter mixture over the batter in spoonfuls.
  7. Add the remaining brownie batter on top, spreading gently to cover the peanut butter dollops.
  8. Spoon the remaining peanut butter mixture on top in small dollops.
  9. Use a butter knife or skewer to swirl the peanut butter through the batter in figure-eight motions, creating a marbled effect without overmixing.
  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes. Check doneness by inserting a toothpick near the center; it should come out with a few moist crumbs.
  11. Cool completely in the pan on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes before cutting into squares.
  12. Serve and enjoy.

Notes

If peanut butter mixture is too stiff, microwave for 10 seconds to soften. Chill peanut butter swirl for 10 minutes before adding if it tends to sink. Avoid overmixing the swirl to keep distinct ribbons. Toss chocolate chips with a teaspoon of flour to prevent sinking. Room temperature eggs and peanut butter blend better.
