fresh agua fresca recipe - featured image

A quick and easy homemade drink combining frozen watermelon chunks, fresh lime juice, water, and a touch of sweetener for a refreshing, hydrating beverage perfect for hot days.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups (600 grams) frozen watermelon chunks
  • Juice of 2 medium limes (about 2 tablespoons / 30 ml)
  • 2 cups (475 ml) cold water
  • 23 tablespoons sweetener (organic cane sugar, honey, agave syrup, or maple syrup)
  • Fresh mint leaves (optional, a handful)

Instructions

  1. Measure out 4 cups (600 g) of frozen watermelon chunks and juice 2 medium limes to yield about 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of fresh lime juice. Set aside.
  2. Place the frozen watermelon chunks in your blender. Blend on high for about 30-45 seconds until the watermelon is crushed but still chunky, creating a slushy texture.
  3. Pour in the fresh lime juice and 2 tablespoons (25-30 g) of your chosen sweetener. Blend again for 15-20 seconds to combine. Taste and add more sweetener if needed.
  4. Pour in 2 cups (475 ml) of cold water to lighten the mixture. Blend briefly for 10 seconds to mix everything together.
  5. Check consistency; if too thick, add more cold water and pulse until desired texture is reached. If too thin, add a few more frozen watermelon chunks and blend again.
  6. Serve immediately in wide glasses, garnished with fresh mint leaves if desired.

Notes

Use frozen watermelon chunks to chill and thicken the drink naturally without diluting it. Adjust sweetener to taste as watermelon sweetness varies. Fresh lime juice is preferred over bottled for best flavor. For a fizzy twist, substitute cold water with sparkling water and stir gently. Prepare watermelon and lime juice ahead and add water and sweetener just before serving to keep freshness.
