These crispy lightsaber pretzel rods are a fun, colorful snack coated with vibrant candy melts that create a sweet, crunchy treat perfect for parties and celebrations.

  • 12 ounces (340 grams) candy melts in vibrant colors (red, blue, green, yellow)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable shortening (optional, for thinning candy melts and glossy finish)
  • Sprinkles or edible glitter (optional, for decoration)
  • Parchment paper (for drying and cleanup)

Instructions

  1. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat for drying the dipped pretzels.
  2. Place about 6 ounces (170 grams) of candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 30 seconds, stir, then continue microwaving in 15-second intervals, stirring until smooth and fully melted.
  3. If the candy melts are too thick, add 1 teaspoon of vegetable shortening and stir until glossy and pourable.
  4. Hold one pretzel rod by the end and dip it into the melted candy, covering about two-thirds of the rod. Gently tap the rod on the bowl’s edge to remove excess coating.
  5. While the coating is still wet, sprinkle edible glitter or sprinkles if desired.
  6. Place the dipped pretzel on the prepared parchment paper. Repeat with remaining rods, melting more candy melts as needed and switching colors if desired.
  7. Allow the pretzels to dry at room temperature for 30–45 minutes. To speed up hardening, refrigerate for 10–15 minutes if needed.
  8. Once set, transfer pretzels to an airtight container for storage.

Notes

Melt candy melts in short bursts to avoid burning. Use vegetable shortening or coconut oil to thin candy melts for a glossy, crisp coating. Tap off excess coating to prevent drips. Use fresh, crunchy pretzels for best results. Store in airtight container at room temperature away from humidity. Refrigeration can cause condensation and soften coating.
