Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs (about 1.5 pounds / 700 g)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons honey (preferably raw or wildflower honey)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice (optional)

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken thighs dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
  2. Drizzle olive oil over the chicken thighs and rub evenly.
  3. Sprinkle salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika all over the chicken thighs, including slightly under the skin if possible.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes.
  5. Place the chicken thighs skin-side down in the air fryer basket without overcrowding.
  6. Cook for 12 minutes, then flip and cook for an additional 8-10 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) and the skin is golden and crisp.
  7. While the chicken cooks, melt unsalted butter in a small saucepan over medium heat.
  8. Add minced fresh garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant but not browned.
  9. Stir in honey and fresh lemon juice (if using) and cook for another 1-2 minutes until the glaze thickens slightly. Remove from heat.
  10. Transfer the cooked chicken to a plate and brush the honey garlic butter glaze generously over each piece.
  11. Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before serving to lock in the juices.

Notes

Pat chicken dry before seasoning for best crispiness. Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket to allow proper air circulation. Apply the glaze after cooking to prevent burning. Use a meat thermometer to ensure chicken reaches 165°F (74°C). For dairy-free, substitute butter with plant-based margarine and honey with maple syrup. If using boneless thighs, reduce cooking time by about 5 minutes.
